The State of Utah requires divorcing parties with minor children to complete two divorce courses, Divorce Education and Divorce Orientation, before they can obtain a Decree of Divorce. The courses can be taken online and should be completed as soon as possible after filing for divorce.
The Divorce Orientation course informs parents about the divorce process as a whole and alternatives to divorce. It provides resources to help navigate this emotional time and provides information and options available to you.
The Divorce Education course is designed to help educate parents about how children experience divorce. It addresses topics around how to best help children adjust and cope based on their different developmental ages. This course also touches on the financial and legal aspects of divorce.
The Court will not issue a Decree of Divorce until BOTH parties have completed the two courses and filed their Certificates of Completion with the Court.
